Summer Cartwright is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan who has been practicing since 2012. She completed a 60-hour Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Texas, a CACREP accredited program ranked #1 in Texas and #13 in the nation for counseling by U.S. News and World Report. If you’ve been putting off trying therapy because you are afraid that you will “scare off” or “freak out” your therapist . . . then Summer might be the one for you. She has a plethora of training and experience that have prepared her for anything and everything. Most of her clients report being surprised they could open up so much in the first session or two - Summer promises she makes it easy to be yourself. Summer’s approach to therapy is guided by Gestalt theory and practice. Within certain stages of treatment or with specific clients she will incorporate more Cognitive Behavioral approaches (addictions/compulsions/anxiety/intrusive thoughts), Motivational Interviewing or Solution-Focused (short-term therapy or for those wanting faster results) or come from a more Person-Centered approach and incorporate EMDR techniques (in the case of work with grief/loss and trauma) – as the situation and client needs warrant. Outside of work, Summer enjoys hiking and camping (when the weather permits), the occasional salsa/bachata dancing, and frequent sci-fi and Marvel movie binging.
